The Waiting

Prior to co-founding The Waiting with Doc Wiley, Winking brought a bit of twang to some venerable Grand Ole Opry stars and later as a member of the influential band, Montana Rose. In between, he served for years as an in-demand lead guitarist in Austin, Texas’ fertile music scene playing mostly soul/funk. He appeared onstage and/or in the studio with a who’s who of that scene, including Stevie Ray Vaughn, Willie Nelson and Jerry Jeff Walker. He also appeared nationally with artists as diverse as Ray Charles, Sam and Dave, Bonnie Raitt, James Brown and BB King. Unlike his bandmates, Winking discovered Tom Petty as an adult. As such, he gladly trades his twang and soul for rock and roll in order to channel his inner Mike Campbell.
